LIP SYNC, 1969
Le visage de Bruce Nauman en très gros plan est renversé, avec un casque qui l'isole du bruit du monde. Son murmure s'amplifie et déroule en répétition les mots "Lip Sync" puis "Sync Lip", assourdissant l'espace d'un rythme cardiaque. Les mots répétés, chuchotés, emprisonnés dans un plan fixe et issus d'une bouche-caverne, se libèrent dans l'atmosphère pour retourner à l'esprit. Et ce mouvement qui fait du son un objet tend vers un balancement, de la désynchronisation à la synchronisation, de la pensée au langage, de l'esprit aux impulsions du corps. Un mouvement en spirale qui nous fait passer de l'intérieur à l'extérieur, de l'idée à la surface des choses. Stéphanie Moisdon

With the camera mounted upside down, framing only his mouth and neck, Nauman repeats the phrase "lip sync" over and over in loud whisper. Sound and image are intentionally unsynchronized, while the upside-down view of his lips and tongue in action provides a further disorienting quality to the work.
